For the new construction of the Zurich Children's Hospital, an innovative and forward-looking wooden facade was developed - a perfect combination of architectural aesthetics and functional technology.

In the dynamic world of construction, companies often face unique challenges that require innovative solutions. DF2 Fastening Technology AG was confronted with the demanding task of securing the wooden facade of a unique children's hospital in Zurich. This project, realized by the renowned architectural firm Herzog & de Meuron, is a flagship architectural project considered a pioneer in medical care. In the course of this challenging construction task, Bossard AG was able to make a decisive contribution to the solution through its expertise in modern fastening technology and its comprehensive product portfolio.
The central challenge was to find a suitable solution for fastening the wooden facade to the new children's hospital. The high demands for efficiency and stability required a solution that enabled quick and precise assembly. A classic assembly, where screws would have to be individually removed from the package, would have significantly slowed down the process and was therefore not an option. Belted screws offered the ideal solution here, as they allow for rational screwing and significantly speed up the assembly process. Together with DF2, Bossard was able to develop an innovative screwing technology perfectly tailored to the project requirements.
Through the extensive Spax product portfolio, Bossard was able to find a screw that met both the technical requirements and short-term availability. The chosen solution, the BN 20948 facade screw, was offered in the form of magazine long-strip screws, which greatly facilitated assembly. The entire conversion process of the solution took about two years, during which the facade was prefabricated in the Davos plant and delivered to Zurich. The entire construction project spanned from 2018 to 2024.
The implementation of the innovative solution led to significant improvements in the construction process. By using magazine screws, significant time savings were achieved, as they were immediately available and no longer needed to be sorted individually. This automation of the assembly system increased the efficiency of the entire assembly process during the pre-assembly of the outer cladding. The customer, DF2 Fastening Technology AG, continues to benefit from this solution. The use of the facade screw in the form of magazine long-strip screws quickly paid off and convinced with a reliable and efficient solution that also proves itself for future projects.
