Griesser AG is a leading company in the field of high-quality sun protection. They have been working with Bossard at their Aadorf site for over 30 years. The latest project involved the flexible Smart Factory Assembly system solution for order picking.
Griesser’s Challenge
As part of the "Extension Hall L" project and the merging of various processes, the centralization of the setup area was an important topic. In the past, the picking process was distributed across four different halls. The "Centralized Setup Area" project provided decisive impetus in the following areas:
- Sustainable quality in setup
- Diverse use made difficult
- Outdated Windows 7 computers
- Outdated camera system for image verification
- Picking, Windows 7 computers, and image verification from different providers, which no longer offered updates
Our Solution: Technology Supporting the Picking Process
As part of the support for the 'Central set-up station' project, ideas were generated to use the SmartLabels of the logistics solution in a different way. Bossard is able to control the SmartLabels via the ELAM assembly software. This means that Griesser can now set up its sets using Pick-by-Light technology. This helps Griesser with process monitoring and error-free production of its sets.
With an imported parts list, the employees always know what quantity needs to be picked. Thanks to an ERP interface, Griesser can cover its many different picking variants and obtain valuable production data.

The main focus of the project is on improving versatility and process reliability. The new system makes it much easier for new employees to get up to speed, speeding up training and integration into the workflow. The system also makes a significant contribution to improving the quality of the picking process by reducing errors and increasing the accuracy of item selection. The time spent searching for items is significantly reduced, resulting in a more efficient and smoother workflow.
