How GEA Invests in SmartBin to Future-Proof Production
GEA is one of the leading global suppliers of process technology for the energy and food industries, producing feeding systems for cattle in their factory in Denmark.
As in many Western countries, production costs are comparatively high in Denmark. For GEA to remain competitive in the future, they have adapted and invested in new technology that can transform their factory in Mullerup into a Smart Factory to reduce costs.
"We have closely followed the Smart Factory development, which is why we have invested in intelligent technology that makes us competitive in both the short and long term," says Jacob Aagaard, purchaser at GEA.
Over the years, GEA has gone from employees themselves managing the goods to a manual 2-bin system to handle C-parts, but it did not meet the goal of reducing inventory binding and internal logistics costs.
SmartBin Streamlines the Most Time-Consuming Processes
To future-proof production in Denmark, GEA has implemented Bossard's Smart Factory Logistics concept, making use of our logistics system SmartBin. The automated SmartBins are strategically placed in production for easier access and handling for employees, while the entire ordering process of GEA's C-parts is now automated.
"The advantage of the Bossard solution is that the system simplifies and streamlines the most time- and resource-consuming processes. The implementation has taken place in three stages – from manual disposition to a 2-bin system and further to SmartBin, which reduces inventory, internal logistics costs, and provides high delivery reliability," says Jacob Aagaard from GEA.
